Experience UWF: 'A Stór Mo Chroí, O’ Love of my Heart’ Irish Song & Poetry
405 S Adams St, Pensacola, FL
The Experience UWF Downtown Lecture Series, in partnership with UWF's Music Hall Artist Series, presents ‘A Stór Mo Chroí, O’ Love of my Heart,’ an evening of Irish song and poetry with Irish brothers Mícheál & Owen Ó Súilleabháin, March 9, 2023. “Ireland is a place in our imagination, as well as a tiny island in the North Atlantic Ocean. The vessel of Irish traditional song carries a deep wisdom expressing the giddy joys and poignant beauty of life. So, too, we share a powerful connection to spoken word and poetry.” The Ó Súilleabháin brothers perform a repertoire of song and poetry that has been handed down to them from their family and wider Irish tradition. Their background in musicology, philosophy and wider academia gives their excellent musicianship a deep yet light-hearted insight. They are also brilliant entertainers, practicing hilarity as well as a deep reverence for the ground of tradition and innovation they inhabit. They have performed with Russell Crowe, The Chieftains, Sinead O Connor and Nigel Kennedy, to name a few. This concert will include a capella song, their own original songs and poetry. There is something for everyone at this special performance, the first by the brothers Ó Súilleabháin in Pensacola. The Ó Súilleabháin brothers are engaged in a masterclass and performance series with the University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music. They will play a central part in the annual Irish Experience, where arts-based UWF students have studied abroad in Ireland during the summer since 2014!
