Beethoven and Blue Jeans - Saenger Theatre

118 S. Palaox Street Pensacola Florida

Whether or not you choose to wear your favorite denim to this concert, join the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra for this annual celebration of Beethoven, anchored by the composer’s Fourth Symphony. A beguiling work filled with a spirit of joviality, it was once described by the composer Hector Berlioz as possessing “heavenly gentleness.” Known for its musical variety, the program continues with a South American influence, featuring soprano Danielle Talamantes performing the aria from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 accompanied by eight solo cellos. She’ll also sing Enrique Granados’ The Maiden and the Nightingale, inspired by the visual art of Francisco Goya. To conclude the program, soloist Julien Labro will perform Astor Piazzolla’s Concerto for Bandoneón, “Aconcagua.” Akin to an accordion, the bandoneón originated in Germany but was popularized in Argentina and Uruguay with frequent use in tango ensembles.
