Free parking downtown? Here's where to find it.

Nearly 40 percent of the downtown parking spots managed by the Downtown Improvement Board are free all day, every day. The most important thing to remember is there's a two-hour time limit on these free spots. Having a limit ensures that there is regular turnover, to give everyone equal access to free downtown parking.

Did you know that free parking is available just off Main St. in the Harborview On the Bay parking garage at W. Cedar and S. Baylen? There is also free on-street parking along Tarragona Street between Garden and Government Streets. And parking down the main downtown corridor, Palafox Street, is free as well. These are just a handful of the free parking locations downtown.

In some areas the two-hour time limit has not been enforced regularly. The DIB has begun a campaign to educate the public about free parking locations as well as the two-hour limits. During a public awareness period that ends Oct. 24, parking ambassadors will issue “gentle reminders” with warning tickets for vehicles parked longer than two hours. Then, from Oct. 25-Nov. 25, they will issue official warnings (i.e., the second time a vehicle overstays, a $10 citation will be written.) The 2-hour parking limit will be fully in effect beginning Nov. 25.
